A SPACE INSIDE TO GROW: MY WORK

About
HOW I WORK

I called my business A Space Inside to Grow because that’s exactly what I believe play therapy provides for children. Play therapy takes place in a safe, nurturing and confidential space, often within a school or children’s centre. Here there’s a chance, a space in time, an opportunity, for everything else to disappear for a while and for that child to just ‘be’. This is a space where they can utilise the skills that they have and begin to explore, play and heal using their natural means of expression, play.

My approach in play therapy is to be non – directive and to let the child follow their interests and lead the way. This is drawn from the work of Carl Rogers and Virginia Axline. The sessions are called Special Time and usually last for 40 minutes.

I provide lots of different play materials for children to use as part of the therapeutic toolkit. This includes clay, paint, sand, puppets, small world toys, role play and musical instruments; the toolkit is always available. Please click on the Flickr icon below to see some examples of the creative activities children may engage in as part of their therapeutic process. Work produced by clients is confidential and is kept safe within the play space.
